The Guardian Dragon
By Sheila Kennedy
Forth he came then from his lair
Wings unfurled as he smelt the air
Long the time he had been asleep
In a cavern in the earth deep
Yet always listening for the call
From the one he gave his all
A promise made then long began
Before the advent as he knows as man
Life times many there have been
Between this guardian male and his human seen
As small and weak and in need of care
From this ancient guardian there
In stories told
Of deeds bold
And ancient earthly lore
The dragon human bond was forged from shore to shining shore
An unbreakable bond of love and care
Of duty and knowing then what’s fair
Bind together as you see
Our Guardian Dragons with you and me
So blessed we are on this too
As Dragon memories are shared with you
Water Dragon
By Sheila Kennedy
Prehistoric grey, green and gold
He shows not fear is brave and bold
The river bank he calls his home
Along its length he then does roam
Prehistoric is his form
For him the reeds a daily norm
Yet basks he too in sun so fair
And surveys all around him there
I had not seen these creatures bold
Who look like stone from days of old
Until I came to stay awhile
Beside a river which made me smile
For walks many there have been
Along the banks of verdant green
Accompanied by a small dog
Who investigates both dragon and frog
The dragon fearless holds its gaze
Before turning to the maze
Of reeds and grasses that abound
Along the banks of the river sound
For water flowing there do be
Between the banks as we do see
To close at times I need have a care
Or the dog would have me in the river there
