A Message from the Vila

Via Sara Jane

Most of you use herbs and/or spices to enhance the flavour of your food. You also use fragrant oils in burners or in room fresheners to create an “atmosphere” in your homes.

We the Vila work with herbs, not just for cooking but also to make Herbal Remedies which can be administered in several different forms:-

Compresses, Infusions, Lotions/Ointments, Oils,

Poultices, Steam Inhalations, Tinctures, Tisanes/Teas.

We encourage you to drink more herbal & fruit teas; to learn about different herbs, plants & oils and the benefits they can bring you.

Many of you are aware of Lavender; that if you keep dried lavender in cupboards & draws it keeps the moths from your clothes. If you grow Lavender next to Roses it helps keep them clear of greenfly. Lavender as an oil helps you to relax and sleep, as can Chamomile in a tea.

You may already be aware of the benefits of Peppermint for helping settle your stomach; it can also be used to help ease nausea.

Many of you will have heard of Witch Hazel, which can be used for shin conditions such as acne, also for insect bites and stings; as can Aloe Vera.

We are encouraging you to learn more, there is lots of information on the internet and in books; there are some wonderful books out there.

Indigenous Peoples such as Native Americans and Aborigines still have the knowledge passed down over many generations and this information is being shared with you all ~ Please open to it.

It is not necessary to make your own, in fact if you are interested enough to do so, please seek professional advice. Books do not always contain the fullest information and some remedies should not be mixed with each other or with other types of medication ~ an example:-

St John’s Wort, which can be used in anti-depressants, to help relieve anxiety and to aid sleep, stops the effectiveness of the pill ~ Yes if you are taking St John’s Wort whilst on the pill you could become pregnant.

Peppermint and coffee can prevent the effectiveness of Homoeopathic Remedies.

There are Herbalists and Homoeopaths out there, very good, highly qualified ones with many years experience, who can offer support, guidance and even training; seek them out.

We are NOT saying “do not go to the doctors and hospitals”, there is room for us all to work together. Herbs and oils can be affectively used as a preventative as well as a curative and in some cases can be used against some of the side effects of modern medicines helping to make them more affective.

Your gardens, woodlands and wild spaces offer many gifts if you know what you are looking for. Treat them with Respect and Love; help protect them so that these gifts from the Mother are there for many generations to come.

Ask our guidance & support and be open to our answers, they may not come in the form you expect but they will come to you.

We Love You

Your Magical Friend
